Introduction

Q-I

In domain nomenclature, three character, letter dash letter dot coms, like q-i.com, are collectively referred to as L-L.coms. They have a kind of uniqueness and cool-factor that appeals to computer people with math backgrounds (like myself), web designers, domainers and companies.

There are 676 (26x26) L-L.coms in existence, ranging from a-a.com to z-z.com, and all were registered years ago. Many are owned by large online entities. Although some intrinsically receive traffic, most are desired because their letter combinations can represent business names. For instance, Q-I could represent Quality Internet, Quebec Insurance, Quest International, etc.

The aforementioned and other factors have combined to increase their value over the years. If you're able to find an owner willing to part with one, you can expect prices to begin at $2000 US (if you're lucky) and go much higher, depending on quality.

I have a few ideas regarding the usage of this space, but at the moment, I'm leaning toward turning it into some kind of design project.

Aside than that, I'm not entirely sure which direction I'll be taking it in, so for now at least, this place-setter will have to suffice while I have a think about it. :)

Notes

By the way, if you're using Windows, this page is best viewed through a Safari Browser with the Quartz Engine running. On a Mac, it shouldn't matter. Under all circumstances, high pixel density (ppi) is preferable. Text-based webpages simply don't look right on any other setup.

I've put this web space together from scatch pretty quickly. Over time, I'll endeavour to improve things.
